Instructions for Authors (Effective
October 5, 2005)
- The Japanese Journal of Vascular Surgery publishes
original contributions. Submission to the journal is
exclusive to the members of the Japanese Society for
Vascular Surgery (JSVS), with the exception of acceptance
of non-members' submission after the chairperson's decision
to do so.
- While manuscripts (original articles, case reports
and others) have not been and will not be submitted
to any other publication, they should demonstrate the
originality that contributes to the advancement of vascular
surgery.
- Complete copyright to the article will be transferred,
effective if and when the article is accepted for publication
in the journal.
- Based on peer review, our editorial board makes
final decisions.
- Manuscripts are written in Japanese or English.
Online submission is encouraged while the one for English
manuscripts is in preparation. English manuscripts should
conform to the English version of Instructions for Authors.
- Manuscript Format
- Avoid overuse of foreign words except for names
of journals, persons, and/or other words that are unavoidable
to quote as they are.
- The title page includes title, names of all authors,
institutions, index words, key words, running title,
contact information for correspondence: name, address,
phone, fax, and email address. If manuscripts were presented
at any society meeting, list meeting name, year, and
place. The original article is authored by 10 or fewer.
The case report 6 or fewer. Three to five key words
should be selected from the journal's key
words collection. A running title in 8 words or
fewer is provided in the title page.
- Both original article and case report include a
double-spaced English abstract in 180 words or fewer
words. The abstract comprises, in the order of, Background
stating the purpose of study, Methods (Case Report),
Results, and Conclusion.
- The original article's body includes, in the order
of, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results Discussion,
and Conclusion. The case report's body includes, in
the order of, Introduction, Case Report, Discussion,
and Conclusion.
- Invited review(s) and lecture paper(s) conform to
the above-mentioned iii and iv, or the Society requests
specific formats.
- Report on district meetings includes title, institution,
names of presenter and co-presenter(s), and an abstract
of 80 words or fewer. Inquire about reports on general
meeting.
- In principle, the original article can carry 8 figures/tables
or fewer, the case report 3 or fewer. Never count a
combination of multiple figures/charts as a single figure.
One table is considered equivalent to 320 words, one
figure 160 words. Captions for figures/tables are written
in English. Manuscripts should indicate where to insert
figures/tables.
- Submission Cost
- The following are published free of charge: The
original article in up to 6 printed pages (equivalent
to 4,000 words) including
- title
- names of all authors
- institutions
- abstract
- index words
- figures and tables
- references
The case report in up to 4 printed pages (equivalent
to 2,400 words) including the same 7 items as the original
article. Anything exceeding the above will be charged
¥40,000 per page to author(s).
- Offprints of 30 articles are given to author(s)
for free of charge. Anything exceeding the above will
be covered by author(s).
- Author(s) cover the costs of a block copy of figure(s),
layout of table(s), and/or color printing.
- References
- References are limited to 30 or fewer, numbered
consecutively in the order of appearance in the text.
With a reference of more than 3 authors manuscripts,
list only the first 3 authors followed by “et
al.” Journal: author name(s), title, journal name,
volume, inclusive page numbers (e.g., 333-336), and
year. Book: author name(s), book name, number of edition
if necessary (or author name, title, book name, editor
name), place of issue, year, publishing company, inclusive
reference page number if necessary. Foreign references
are abbreviated according to Index Medicus.

- The following must be sent by mail with a delivery
certificate, such as registered mail, to the editorial
office of the Japanese Society for Vascular Surgery
(address see below).
Send:
- 1 copy of the first page of each reference
- the signed copyright agreement bound in the journal
- Hardcopy Submission
- Manuscripts are typed in A4-size papers and all
pages are numbered consecutively.
- Figures/tables must be clear enough to be printed
as they are. Photos should be printed on cabinet-size
paper, with the author's name and figure number(s) penciled
on the back, and are glued on paper (glue only on 4
corners). Indicate where to insert the figures/tables.
Send the following:
- the original
- 2 photocopies
- 3 sets of original figure(s)/table(s)
- If submission is accepted for publication, send
1 hardcopy of the revised final manuscript plus 1 more
on floppy disk (3.5 inch, 2HD, saved as text file).
- In principle, manuscripts accepted for publication
will not be returned unless a request is made. Enclose
stamps for return postage.
- Manuscripts should be sent by mail with a delivery
certificate, such as registered mail, to :
